Well considering the Cardinals season is over there really isn't much for me to talk about yet, except for a couple of pieces of news that have come out in the past couple of days. I want to talk about the World Series really quick so I can stop thinking about it.
Ok so was anyone else expecting the Giants to go up 2 games to none? I sure wasn't! I kind of assumed after the past two series they have played in they would be down 2 games to none!! I guess that October is truly full of surprises! I feel bad for the Tigers though, they sent out their number one ace, who has been lights out this October, and he got roughed up. Who knew that Verlander would only last 3 innings! I expected more from the Tigers! I thought after what happened in 2006 after a long break, they would have learned something! They seemed to since they kept playing little warm up games through out this week but apparently it didn't help. Or they just haven't shown it yet. The Cardinals proved last year that anything can happen, so this World Series might just have an exciting ending. Also who expected Pablo Sandoval to hit 3 home runs in the first game of the World Series! It was a HUGE deal last year when Albert Pujols did it but who knew it would happen two years in a row?!? Especially since the last time it was achieved was in 1977! Crazy cool that it has happened twice in a row but as a Cardinal fan I'm kinda just like, whatever Albert Pujols did it last year. What a big way to start off the World Series especially since 2 of them were hit against Justin Verlander, the Tigers number 1 ace!
Cardinal camp has been pretty quiet this week, except for a couple big announcements. One announcement that's not really news because they had talked about it a couple of times towards the end of the season, the Cardinals have decided not to pursue free agent Kyle Lohse. Granted I am not a huge fan of Kyle Lohse, but it's heartbreaking since he was the only decent pitcher we had for most of the year and the post season! He was the most consistent after a rough start, and had the second most amount of wins! Plus he was the only pitcher to go more than 3 innings in more than one game this post season. I understand it because they don't think he's worth it anymore and he took awhile to be worth it the last time they gave him a big contract, but come on! Also the other big news out from the Cardinals recently is that they are not renewing the contract with Dyar Miller. Frankly I don't really know a lot about him except he is a bullpen coach, so I am not sad to see him go. After last year, I'm kind of glad there aren't a lot of big changes happening. I'm excited to see all of our pitchers working out and hopefully healing so they can be in better form for next year! It will be interesting to see who the starting rotation is because even our big aces struggled with injury or just flat out struggled this year. My opinion is we need to have 8 guys in the rotation: 5 in the regular rotation, and 3 back ups. After the problems we had this year, it seems like the perfect idea! Also congrats to Yadier Molina on your Fielding Bible Award! I know he has won this award a couple of times so to see him win once again it is so cool! Especially since it seems like little Buster Posey might be taking the Gold Glove and/or MVP away from him. (blech)
I will probably blog again soon about the World Series, especially if the Giants sweep :(. Unless there is more coming from Cardinals camp, I might just blog about my stories!
